Synopsis: OK. Who is Mr. Peabody (Ty Burrell)? He is a business titan, inventor, scientist, two-time Olympic medalist and genius. He can play many musical instruments, such as; guitar, piano, sitar, drums, and these are just a few. He is also an experienced Chiropractor. He is a good friend of Leonardo da Vinci (Stanley Tucci), and has met Mona Lisa in person. He has been traveling in time, and has been everywhere, and witnessed most of the historical events in human history. Using his most incredible invention- the WABAC machine, Mr. Peabody and his adopted son Sherman, travel back in time to experience world-changing events. They end up interacting with some of the greatest characters of all time, such as; Leonardo da Vinci, Marie Antoinette, Odysseus, Albert Einstein, and George Washington.
Sherman is a very-well educated boy. However, he manages to get into trouble at school because of Penny Peterson (Ariel Winter). Peabody decides to invite Penny and her parents for dinner to resolve this issue. But that night, not everything will go as planned…
How many animated movies are made in Hollywood during the year? Maybe ten or less? Not to mention short-animated movies. But how many of them are educational and suitable for kids? The year 2013 brought us Disney`s “Frozen”. But what about 2014? This question will remain unanswered till 2015.
So far, ‘Mr. Peabody & Sherman” has a chance to be remembered as an educational animated movie for kids, but not just kids. Some of you might find Rob Minkoffs`s film too advanced for children. Let’s just say that some time travel events shown in the movie can be a bit hard for children to understand. But I like the idea that “Mr. Peabody and Sherman” might teach children something valuable and interesting before they go to school. And why not?
“Mr. Peabody and Sherman” is filled with historical figures and events that every kid must know. Despite the fact that Mr. Peabody is a dog, he is still smarter than the humans with whom he is interacting. And I am pretty sure, children will love it.
There are many details in the movies that I don’t want to reveal, but there is one moment that will be remembered without any doubt and this is the way Sherman was adopted.
Rob Minkoff (The Lion King, Stuart Little 1 & 2), a big fan of “Peabody’s Improbable History” segment on Rocky and Bullwinkle, had been dreaming about making a feature-film adaptation for years. And I am very pleased that he was the one who directed this animated movie. As a person who is a big fan of “The Lion King”, after seeing his new film, I am not disappointed at all. The animation is absolutely fantastic and 3D adorns it. The story is very interesting and suitable for children. Sometimes it is funny, sometimes it is very sad. But, in the end, all that matters is that “Mr. Peabody and Sherman” is a charming animated movie. Mr. Peabody, voiced by Ty Burrell , I must say, does a praiseworthy job. Not to mention, Stanley Tucci, Patrick Warburton, Mel Brooks and Stephen Toblowsky and Max Charles as Sherman.
I was disappointed that this one didn’t get the attention it deserved. It was surprisingly great. Loved the “educational” stuff at a time when History is often neglected. But it disappeared from the theatres here too soon.
it was quite popular here in Toronto! But all what I care about is the story. The creators of the Mr Peabody did great job!
They have indeed done a nice job 🙂 I guess some people thought the title was strange.
And nobody really wishes to choose History as a topic of study these days. When everyone studies science, it is good that the movies like this give a knowledge of history to people 🙂
Not just strange: most of parents thinks that their kids are too young to understand the history. But I say, it`s better to learn the History at young age than something else, that can destroy their youth.
I have felt the same, & the best tutor of history for me was the game Age of Empires and its sequels along with a little bit of Empire Earth & Civilization series. Such small things that we come across during childhood helps a lot 🙂 Made sure that I could finally choose a degree I liked when every kid was forced to choose science.
