To reboot an old and beloved movie for a new generation is somewhat a task that only a skilful filmmaker can handle. But unfortunately, Paul Feig appears to not be one of them. Forced unrealistic characters, weak screenplay, awful performance, and the cliché used in the new “Ghostbusters” sadly won’t make you call them in case you see a ghost, but rather dial 911 as a safer and more trustworthy service.

Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates are long time friends and paranormal enthusiasts who believe in existence of ghost. Jillian Holtzmann is a nuclear engineer, and Patty Tolan a subway worker. All four women unite in the fight against ghosts that are about to invade Manhattan. It appears that someone creates a device much stronger than anyone can imagine which is capable of opening a portal that will allow all ghosts to enter this world. But before it happens, all ghosts must prepare to face the four strongest and intelligent women who will stand for New York at any cost.

In the opening scene we find that Erin Gilbert (played by Kristen Wiig) has a great job in Columbia University and enjoys her quiet life until the moment when her former best friend, Abby Yates (played by Melissa McCarthy) brings their jointly written book back to Amazon for sale. That brings Erin to Yates’ office, where shortly after the two women will be on their way to chase the Gertrude Aldridge Ghost.

In the meantime, Patty Tolan (played by Leslie Jones) is a subway worker who also sees a ghost that quickly brings her to the office of the Ghostbusters to ask for help. However, how that happens is hard to say, but soon, seemingly with no scientific education or anything that would have helped Patty to contribute to be a valuable member, she joins the Ghostbusters team with the only one knowledge she had – the streets of New York.

Sadly, a politically correct plot, and sometime pointless scenes make GHOSTBUSTERS an incredibly boring movie to watch. But it has the two best things worth seeing or hearing though; the original soundtrack of the GHOSTBUSTERS and the great Kristen Wiig, who despite her attempt, still could not make this movie better.

In conclusion, if you ask me whether Paul Feig’s film deserved to be seen, my answer to you would be, “yes, sure does”. Because, by writing a negative review does not mean you have to turn your back to this movie and not watch it at all. It’s just that even though you do watch, you won’t want to watch it again, and on that you can trust me without a doubt. It could also be a wrong directorial choice, or the casting director who seems was not sure what to do with Patty Tolan and Jillian Holtzmann characters. Or maybe he could have concentrated on the direction itself, where the story could have gone in a different way, where perhaps those four women somehow were related to the original characters.

In that case, GHOSTBUSTERS would have ended up an absolutely different film. Possibly more watchable and intriguing. But since that did not happen in this version, let’s hope, someone else will come up with such an idea. Until then, we have to see what we have – the classic version of the GHOSTBUSTERS.
