It’s always fun watching zombie films. But they have never been so entertaining as it was with “Little Monster”. It’s not only hilarious, it’s engaging, cute and, in a way, provides a refreshing look into the beloved genre. And having Lupita Nyong`o as the lead was an excellent bonus no one in the right mind can object.

Written and directed by Abe Forsythe, “Little Monsters” follows a charismatic character, Dave (Alexander England), with a questionable dictionary that does not help him much to give some insight to his nephew. After meeting his charming and truly caring kindergarten teacher, Miss Caroline (Lupita Nyong`o), the man jumps in joy as soon as he hears out about an excursion he could join. What seemed like just an ordinary trip to the park, it turns out into a survival battle with zombies that are always hungry but cute at the same time. More importantly, during this challenge, Dave will manage to not only help Miss Caroline, but help himself as well to become a better person.

“Little Monster” wins in many aspects, but one of them is the screenplay and the lines the actors deliver so flawlessly. Despite having coarse language, the film does not lose its taste, does not become cheesy or a cliché. Indeed, there are zombies and a lot of them but this film has its own way of handling stressful situations by showing that anything is manageable with great team effort. And that’s the beauty of it. No matter what happens over the course of the film, you never lose your sight, always remain attentive and even forget checking your watch. And even if you do so, you will feel time has been spent less on something as cool as “Little Monsters”.
