If someone were to ever tell me that one day I’ll be rooting for a career-criminal and never want him to get caught at any point in his life, my response would be – that’s complete nonsense. But that opinion has changed after watching David Lowery’s, “The Gun & the Old Man”, probably the most adorable movie so far this year.

Forrest Tucker (Robert Redford) enjoys robbing banks, breaking out of prisons, and talking to people. Overall, he is the most peaceful and charming career-criminal to ever appear in a movie. He, after robbing the bank, meets Jewel (Sissy Spacek), a widow whose charm was even stronger than his own. In the meantime, police detective, Kevin, begins his hunt for the experienced Tucker, but realizes that maybe it will be easy to catch him but more difficult to hold him tight if he, same as every other victim of Tucker, doesn’t fall for him.

“The Old Man & The Gun” is mostly based on a true story. It examines how one can break the law and remain so favorable. The scene in which Forrest lists all the times he escaped from prison was almost like a farewell to Robert Redford who promises to retire. Casey Affleck as a very likable detective could not be any more humane and genuine. But it’s Sissy Spacek who stole the movie – her character was so bright and charming that she shone like sunshine. Every time when you see her in a scene, your heart will start jumping. And the score… What can I say about it? That sort of score can win battles beating any enemy, or conquer the most insensitive heart which will melt like ice after hearing such heartwarming music.
