The Top 5 Shows to Binge Watch Again and Again
While it’s not necessarily a good idea to binge watch on a regular basis, there are times when there is no better feeling than to curl up in front of the TV and catch up with our favourite shows. Cold, rainy days are the best: A time to just shut the doors and grab a box set.
The binge watching phenomenon is also a salute to the quality of the programme but some shows are naturally better than others so, if you’re looking for recommendations, here are our top 5.
Game of Thrones
If you’ve yet to embrace the phenomenon that is Game of Thrones then you’ve plenty of catching up to do. Originally released in 2011, the show hit series seven in 2017 with some 67 episodes to get through.
The fantasy drama features the struggle for supremacy in the seven kingdoms of Westeros. Violent dynasties cross paths in tales of intrigue, sex and murder. There’s a lot of binge watching to get through here but the millions of GoT fans would endorse our view that you’ll thank us for the recommendation.
Friends
For many viewers, the mark of a great series is one that enjoys longevity and crosses the generations. Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey first arrived in 1994 in this enduring tale of love, loss and, of course, friendship.
For those who remember the series first time around, the nostalgia element keeps us coming back while Friends have picked up a whole set of new fans in nearly 25 years. If you’ve yet to pick up on the lives of the cast, you have a full ten series of box sets to work through.
The Office
In relative terms, the original UK version of the Office is a sprint compared to the marathons on this list but according to the IMDB website, it remains one of the most addictive TV shows ever. There are just two series and a special for those brief bingeing interludes but they are well worth the diversion.
Follow the escapades of cringeworthy boss David Brent as he guides his staff through the trials of paper distribution. This is Ricky Gervais at his best and in two series between 2001 and 2003, a comedy legend was born.
Breaking Bad
Shows that make it on to the ‘binge list’ all share similar qualities but each episode must end with a cliff-hanger which leaves us wanting to watch the next instalment immediately. That’s certainly the case with Breaking Bad, the tale of the chemistry teacher who, when diagnosed with a terminal illness, turns drug manufacturer to secure his family.
Starring Bryan Cranston, the show ran for five series over five years and is sorely missed.
The Sopranos
It’s quite hard to believe that The Sopranos first came into our lives back in 1999 with this violent, but somehow lovable bunch of characters led by James Gandolfini’s Tony. Eight years and six seasons later it was gone.
Nielsen ratings saw The Sopranos peak at an average of just under 11 million viewers but while those numbers dipped, the legacy lives on among hordes of dedicated, binge watching fans.
