Rating: 4 out of 5.

More and more people are getting infected with Covid-19 every day. It seems there is no light at the end of the tunnel. We know people die. We realize that Wuhan was the epicenter of an epidemic that put a start to a deadly toll across the globe. As some may get angry at the country of origin of the virus, “Wuhan Wuhan” shows what the western world got wrong.

By gaining impressive access to frontline healthcare workers in Wuhan, filmmaker Yung Chang takes the viewer to Hubei’s province that is in a complete shutdown. As a factory worker turned into an essential worker, Yin drives doctors to their workplace. The film brings us closer to the people infected with the deadly virus. Each one of them gets to survive in a difficult situation. In overwhelmed ICUs at the highest capacity, doctors create a special bond even with the most difficult patients to give them hope which viruses like Covid can take away instantly.

“Wuhan Wuhan” captures an incredible journey of each protagonist, takes us to newly built temporary hospitals and how nurses and doctors put their lives on the line to save others. Films like these help us gain insight into hospital fights which, somehow, countries like Canada and even the United States avoid showing people. This documentary avoids questions like where did the virus came from and its deadly nature. It rather concentrates on the human aspect of it, by letting people play their part as you follow the most poignant and heartbreaking portrayal of Covid in Wuhan and how they fought for each life they saved and lost….
