TIFF 2026’s fifth day is underway on Monday, September 14, and it’s shaping up to be another busy one on King Street West as the festival heads into its second week.

Today’s Schedule

Bucking Fastard Set for Its Canadian Premiere

Werner Herzog’s Bucking Fastard is due to screen at TIFF Lightbox at noon for its Canadian premiere. The film stars real-life siblings Rooney Mara and Kate Mara, with Orlando Bloom also expected to walk the carpet.

Who to Watch For on the Red Carpet

Penélope Cruz, Orlando Bloom, Helen Mirren, Javier Bardem, John Malkovich, Rooney Mara, Lily James, and Sam Rockwell are all expected to make appearances today. Road closures around King Street West remain in effect as celebrities continue arriving throughout the day.

Still Riding the Buzz From the Weekend

Tangles, an animated adaptation of Sarah Leavitt’s graphic memoir about her mother’s Alzheimer’s, is emerging as one of the festival’s most affecting titles. Julia Louis-Dreyfus voices the mother, with Abbi Jacobson as her daughter, and critics are praising the film’s ability to balance dark subject matter with genuine humor.

Head to Head, an Iranian drama following actors confronting the real cost of the hijab mandate during a covert film shoot, is also drawing strong reactions for its layered look at gender and complicity.

Elsewhere, Back in Black — a pitch-black comedy starring Christopher Walken and Jane Curtin as funeral-home owners driven to murder to keep the business afloat — and Michelle Yeoh’s thriller The Surgeon both screened to enthusiastic crowds over the weekend and remain the talk of the festival.
