    Back in 1964, there was only one Walt Disney’s movie that has ever received a total of thirteen Academy Award nominatios, with winning only five, and that movie was “Mary Poppins” with incomparble Julie Andrews and Paul Van Dyke. And up until this time, “Mary Poppins” written by P.L. Travers is widely considered to be one of the greatest films of all time. But what had really happened behind the curtain of our beloved movie was told in the movie “Savig Mr. Banks” Tom Hanks as Walt Disney and  Emma Thomson as P.L Travers.

    When first time I watched the movie “Mary Poppins” with uique, superior and inimitable Julie Andrews and Paul Van Dyke, I could have never imagine that back in 1964 “Mary Poppins” has received thirteen Academy Award nomintions, but with winning only fve. And how could I know being a little child that, the story that was told i the P.L. Travers bookHowever, me, as a huge fan of “Mary Poppins” would have never get a chance to find out the truth until this moment.

    “Saving Mr. Banks” directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side, Snow White and the Huntsman) has resurect ed the story of Mary Poppins and has revealed us untold backstory of how Disney’s classic “Mary Poppins” made it to th screen, and moreover the relationship between  P.L. Travers(Emma Thomson) and Walt Disney (Tom Hanks)  during production of the movie.. Walt Disney has made a promise to his daughterS that one day he will  make a movie based on his daughter’s beloved book written by P.L. Travers. But by  that time he did not realize that it would take  literally another 20 years in order to keep his promise. But that time, Walt Disney did not know that he need to face with one of the uncompromising writers who has absolutely no intention  of letting her beloved “Mary Poppins” get mauled by Hollywood. But he also did not know , that the story that has been told in the book was true and and had had happened with P.L. Travers when she was child. 

    If you would ask me, who I would like to be casted i the movie, my answer to you would be: “I don’t know. Perhaps, someone who real deserved to be Walt Disney or P.L. Travers on the big screen.” But John Lee Hancock knew exactly who will portait Walt Disney and P.L. Travers.And who else if not giant’s of the Hollywood Tom Hanks and Emma Thomson? Tom Hanks is  a two-time Academy Award Winner and fellow double Oscar Winner Emma Thomson woub the perfect match for this role.

    And to me, as a huge movie fan the cast in the “Saving Mr Banks” was just perfect. In my own opinion, based what I’ve read about P.L. Travers (and only good things) Emma Thomson was absolutely outstanding And the scene where Emma performs a song “Lets go Fly Kite” with the Sherman brothers will make you  laugh and cry  at the same time. Both Tom Hanks and Emma Thomson performance along with Colyn Farrel brings “Mary Poppins” to a whole different level. One thing with certain I can say: once you finished watching the movie “Saving Mr. Banks” Mary Poppins will never be the same.
