Film Review: “In Order of Disappearance” (2014) ★★★

On the day when you are about to receive an award for the best man of the year, you don`t expect that the next day will bring you a devastating news that will completely change the course of your life. And when on that particular day you take away everything precious from a hard working snowplow driver such as Nils (Stellan Skarsgård), get ready to line up for in order of disappearance.

IN ORDER OF DISAPPEARANCE follows a man who dedicated his life to clean people’s path on their way home. He cautiously and with extra care would work over time to help people to reach their home safely. For that incredibly difficult job Nils gets awarded. He even says at the ceremony, “Why should I get an award for a job that I love so much?”. Those words bring a round of applause for him, but the next time he is about to forget everything, as he finds himself on a sudden duty, where now he needs to do another clean up job – to reduce the amount of criminals in his city.

That of course did occur to him out of the blue. Nils, when he proudly comes from work, receives a phone call finding out that his only son found dead in the middle of the city. Police officers believe that it was drug overdose, and it was – but forced by people of local crime boss, known as “The Count”. Despite the police’s assurance that Nils’ son was the same as other teenagers who abuse drugs, Nils knew his son has always stayed away from any drugs. Being angry and full of desire to find the person who ordered the murder of his son, Nils finds himself armed with a gun and bringing the war to underworld gangs, ruled by Serbians and “The Count”.

IN ORDER OF DISAPPEARANCE is well narrated crime drama showing that, with needed desire, a single man can trigger war between drug and gun sellers in a way that there will be no need for police to interfere with. That again does not mean everyone should follow the same things that was done by Stellan Skarsgård’s character, but in the meantime, you sometime may understand him as the only way to clean the name of his son.

In conclusion, Hans Petter Moland’s film is quite interesting to watch. Despite having too much violence, it will never make you to look elsewhere as you watch the violent scene. Stellan Skarsgård as well brings a unique charisma to Nils making his character believable and absolutely likable person. In the end, IN ORDER OF DISAPPEARANCE can hardly be considered as one of the best thriller, however, it is worthwhile seeing. It is easy to follow the story, contains decent action scenes, and Stellan Skarsgård, whose works we simply can’t ignore.
