Upcoming ‘Star Wars’ Movie And TV Shows In 2021 And Beyond

Disney has created a plethora of new Star Wars content ever since they bought Lucasfilm in 2012. The company announced in December last year that fans should look forward to more content in 2021 and beyond. During the Disney Investor Day presentations, they revealed that around nine Star Wars TV shows were on their way to Disney Plus, Disney’s streaming platform. This article gives you a head start by letting you in on the upcoming Star Wars Movie and TV shows you should expect.

The Bad Batch – May 4, 2021

At the end of “Revenge of the Sith,” Supreme Chancellor Palpatine gave the voice command “executive Order 66.” A biochip implanted in all the clone troopers wiped all the existing biases from their minds forcing them to turn against the Jedi without hesitation.

The Bad Batch follows a group of elite clones who differ genetically from their brother in arms and have an irresolute loyalty to the empire. The series has 16 episodes in which the group embarks on a series of mercenary missions as they begin making their escape from the Imperial ranks. Unfortunately, there is no confirmation of a second season.

The five members of the Bad Batch include Hunter, Tech, Echo, Crosshair, and Wrecker. They were introduced in a four-episode arc during The Clone Wars final season. They are known for their mission in Yalbec Prime and Anaxes.

The Book of Boba Fett – December 2021

Boba Fett has received long-overdue moments in the limelight during The Mandalorians second season. The legendary bounty hunter will finally headline his own series. The last time fans saw him, he stormed into Jabba’s former palace on Tatooine with Fennec Shand and executed Bib Fortuna.

After reclaiming a seat on Jabba’s throne, this series will probably follow the events of Boba taking over and running Jabba’s criminal empire. The Book of Boba Fett will continue from where The Mandalorian ended. Therefore, you should expect to see characters like Din Djarin. Jabba’s Palace also featured prominently in “Return of the Jedi.” On the other hand, the larger planet of Tatooine is featured in the prequel trilogy, The Clone Wars, A New Hope, and Rebels.

This series, described as “a tense, nail-biting thriller,” is set during the early years of the Rebellion. This Rogue One prequel series will see Diego Luna reprise his role as the rebel spy Cassian Andor.

At the moment, the details of the storyline are being kept under wraps. However, Genevieve O’Reilly will take over her role as Mon Mothma, a revolutionary leader that left the Imperial Senate to build a rebel alliance. As for K-2SO, Andor’s reprogrammed Imperial droid partner with a playful attitude, Alan Tudyk, stated that his character would not make an appearance.

Obi-Wan Kenobi – 2022

After several years of exciting discussion, Ewan McGregor will make a return as Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi in 2022. It is set ten years after “Revenge of the Sith” and explores Obi-Wan’s time in exile on Tatooine in six episodes. In addition, Kathleen Kennedy revealedthat Hayden Christensen would make a comeback as Darth Vader. He will battle his old master in what is dubbed “the rematch of the century.”

Other characters included in the cast include Bonnie Piesse, Joel Edgerton, Sung Kang, Rupert Friend, Kumial Nanjiani, Maya Erskine, Indira Varma, Simone Kessel, and O’Shea Jackson Jr. the series will fill some blanks of what happened to Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader between their fierce battle on Mustafar in “Revenge of the Sith” and the final battle on the Death Star in “A New Hope.”

The Mandalorian Season 3 – Undated

As mentioned earlier, “The Book of Boba Fett” picks up where the second season finale ended. However, Din Djarin’s story is far from over. Mando recovered the Darksaber after overcoming Moff Gideon in battle. The victory hindered Bo-Katan’s plan to restore her rule of Mandalore. It seems that Mando cannot give her the Darksaber nor surrender it to her because the weapon’s power lies in the legend around it.

Will Mando battle Bo – Katan, or will he join her operation to regain Mandalore? What about Moff Gideon? And probably a critical question is whether we will see Grogu and Luke Skywalker once again. The series’ larger galaxy tie-in is still unclear. However, based on the first and second season, it will likely bring back familiar elements from several corners of the Star Wars canon.

Bottom Line

The shows mentioned in this piece are just a few among many that Star Wars fans should look forward to. However, based on the reviews, there is still a lot of content from Star Wars Galaxy. If you were wondering what happens to your favorite character after the end of a series, you could rest assured that they will make a comeback. Therefore, whether you are a new fan and just learning about lightsaber color meanings or if you’ve been one for decades, get ready for many shows with superb entertainment.
