If you ever thought that being an actor is the coolest and easiest job ever, then you probably have not seen Patrick Brice’s The Overnight with Adam Scott, Taylor Schilling, Jason Schwartzman and Judith Godrèche.  The entire cast of this phenomenal film will force you to change your mind, as they display their peak abilities to perform the characters they portray at their top level. And yet, it’s simply hysterical, shocking, and something you have not seen in a while … and maybe you will never see…

Alex, Emily and their son, RJ, have just moved to Los Angeles. What happens is that they go to a park where they meet a mysterious couple, Kurt and Charlotte. To show how friendly they are, Kurt and Charlotte invite their new friends to their house to celebrate Alex and Emily’s new place.  Being nice and responsive, the newly-arrived find it hard to reject the offer, and agree to go for an overnight stay. As soon as the couple enters to the mansion, their lives are about to change… significantly… They just don’t about it yet…

As the film progresses, like an unreal dream, the viewer may find himself a bit confused. But that’s understandable, under the given circumstances. Firstly, the actors are not only brave enough to do full frontal naked scenes in order to portray their character as thoroughly as possible, but are rather impossible funny. Every time when the viewer moves from one scene to another, the characters put themselves even into more awkward situations which makes the audience keep laughing throughout the entire film. It is simply impossible not to feel amused by such a strong leading performance which we see throughout film.

In conclusion, The Overnight, written and directed by Patrick Brice is one of the cleverly written and funniest films I’ve seen recently. Despite the nude scenes in the film, which is a bit too much, it still feels important to show those scenes as of the one main tools to develop the story. And thankfully, the actors were able to leave their shyness behind the set and forget about everything and do their job as best as possible. After watching this film, I am quite certain, next time you’re invited to spend the night with someone you barely know, you will think twice before you agree. If you still don’t know what I am talking about, and are inclined to disagree with me, maybe it’s the time to see The Overnight.
